I stumbled upon Die Milch by chance, and let me tell you, it was like falling down a rabbit hole into a world of frilly dresses, haunting melodies, and doll-like performers. At first, I wasn’t sure what to make of this Japanese Gothic Lolita duo, but the more I dug into their story and music, the more fascinated I became.

Picture this: two musicians decked out in elaborate Victorian-inspired outfits, complete with petticoats and ornate headpieces, belting out tunes that sound like a mash-up of classical baroque and modern electronica. Sounds wild, right? That’s Die Milch for you.

Sinfonia : trial listening

The band’s origin story reads like a fairy tale. They claim to be magical dolls created centuries ago in medieval Europe, sealed away until 2012 when they awakened to make music once again. Now, I’m not saying I believe they’re actually centuries-old dolls, but you’ve got to admire their commitment to the bit.

When I first heard their music, I was blown away by the contrast between the delicate vocals and the intense violin solos. It’s like they took a baroque orchestra, threw in some electronic beats, and sprinkled it with a dash of J-pop for good measure. Trust me, it shouldn’t work, but somehow it does.

I’ve spent hours watching their music videos, and let me tell you, they’re a visual feast. The video for “Rosaria” had me mesmerized – it’s like watching a living doll come to life and dance through a Gothic wonderland. And don’t even get me started on “Gossip” – I had that one on repeat for days.

What really got me hooked, though, was Die Milch’s philosophy. These guys aren’t just about the fancy outfits and catchy tunes. They genuinely want to spread happiness through their music. There’s something endearing about a band that can rock a petticoat while singing about the beauty of laughter.

I’ve never been to Japan, but Die Milch has me seriously considering booking a ticket just to see them live. Can you imagine the energy at one of their concerts? I bet it’s like stepping into another world.

Die Milch embarked on their journey with the launch of their album “Metronom” in the Fall of 2012. This album marked the beginning of their style characterized by soft vocals and elaborate violin solos accompanied by a mix of harpsichord and electronic rhythms. Their initial track “Mama” was released in the Summer of 2013 which further cemented their position, in the music industry [source 1][source 4].

The band progressed further with their album titled “Imperial” in 2015, this showed their development and exploration, in the gothic rock genre through this record. In 2018 “ Sinfonia,” Die Milchs third album stood out for its partnership with Rose Noire and the introduction of Will Pampelmuse, on violin. Will first joined the group to perform live and officially became a member just before they recorded “Symphony,” which marked his debut with the trio and transformed their dynamic.

Die Milch has recently been producing music that mirrors their growth as artists. Although detailed information, about their tracks is not widely available they continue to engage in crafting music that connects with their audience and highlights their style.

The more I learn about Gothic Lolita culture, the more I appreciate what Die Milch is doing. They’re not just making music; they’re ambassadors for an entire subculture. And they’re doing it on an international stage, no less. I mean, they’ve performed everywhere from London to Prague. Talk about spreading the Lolita love!

I’ll admit, before discovering Die Milch, I probably would have scoffed at the idea of grown adults dressing up like Victorian dolls and prancing around on stage. But now? I kind of get it. There’s something liberating about embracing what you love, whether it’s frilly dresses or baroque-inspired electro-pop.

So, here I am, a converted Die Milch fan, eagerly awaiting their next release and secretly wishing I could pull off a Gothic Lolita outfit (spoiler alert: I can’t). If you haven’t given them a listen yet, do yourself a favor and check them out. Just be warned – you might find yourself humming baroque melodies and eyeing lace collars before you know it.

Who knows? Maybe one day I’ll work up the courage to attend one of their concerts in full Lolita gear. Until then, I’ll be here, headphones on, lost in Die Milch’s mysterious world of music and fashion. And honestly? I’m pretty okay with that.

Sometime later, Jill joined the group, and they became this spectacular trio. I am instantly enchanted by anything with Jill. Fortunately for us, she’s been quite prolific in the rock/ pop genre, and made recordings in various groups. Many of those are with Hollow Mellow. In September 2014, Hollow Mellow held their first performance as an official unit. Then, in December, they released their self-cover album, Reincarnation.

In July 2015, Hollow Mellow made their US debut at Tokyo In Tulsa in Tulsa, Oklahoma, later following their full-length album, Cinema Fantasia. They returned to the U.S. with a performance at Sabaku Con in 2016.In 2017, Hollow Mellow released the album “Enchanted” the title track features the charismatic lolita icon, Misako Aoki, in the music video (MV).
They appeared at NekoCon (Hampton, VA) in 2019.
The MV for “The Red Shoes” premiered on YouTube in 2020, the EP of the same name was released in January of this year, about a week ago!

As you may notice in the videos above. While you hear a violin in each of them, Jill only appears in one.
From their Genesis as a trio, the group line-up has changed, and people have gone on to do other things. I’m not currently informed as to what band Nemo may be with.
The most current line-up for Hollow Mellow is as follows; Iruma Rioka (vocals), Hideki Sato (guitar, Larme Belladonna), Chado (bass), Mishka (drums)
Of course 2020, the pandemic took its toll on the activities of every band. Hollow Mellow is no exception, fortunately the Red Shoes EP was released Feb.2022. And is now available on streaming platforms, like those listed below with the social media icons.
I’m certainly looking forward to hearing more from them. I think they’re the only delightful Goth band I know of, There are many other goth bands that I like, but delightful, seems to fit Hollow Mellow!

“Not Secured, Loose Ends” have a sister group, “Zenbu kimi no sei da,” which translates to “It’s all your fault,” which wasn’t posted as their official in the English name. Their official website gives the English phrase, “Blame everything on you,” but that’s enough about the sister group. I’m gonna get back to “Not Secured, Loose Ends”

this group started in 2015 with the three following original members; Mare A Komachi (まれ・A・小町), Omokuri Rin (想九里倫), and Futamaruya Shidare (◎屋しだれ).

This group’s career began with two digital singles. The first, “Kyousoukaichinari,” came out two days before Christmas of 2015. This was a collaboration with their sister group that I mentioned previously.

The New year saw a new member, Shiosaino Kichi (潮賽乃吉), join in February and, regrettably, graduate two months later due to illness.

The other digital single is a Collaboration featuring Mishiro Megumi, released in March of 2016.

The first mini-album, “Antino Mideology,” was released in May 2016. About the same time, two other members, Kokoko (子子子), and Anata Tsuyame (英艶奴) joined the group.

The single “Six Fall Roar/Nietzsche to no Giyoku” was released late August 2016. Their first full album in December of the same year was titled “Post Catastrophe.”

2017 saw the release of their second mini-album in February, “Antino Mideology -Kaishiki-” followed by the single. MISS SINS in March. And Loud Asymmetry in August. Also, it seems there was one self-titled mixtape in April of 2017.

Unfortunately, Loud Asymmetry would be the last effort with the Group from Kokoko (子子子). After that, she withdrew from the group and became Con (昆), who plays guitar and sings vocals in the rock duo “Gordon,” formed in 2019.

In 2018 a new member, Mei Yui Mei (メイユイメイ), joined in January, and the single “Paradise Lost” was released on the last day of February. There were no other singles for 2018, but on August 1st, the album “exFallen” was released that year.

September 7th of 2018 saw the graduation of Anata Tsuyame (英艶奴). In December, two new members Takari Takara (たかりたから), and Kotetsu (个喆) joined “Not Secured, Loose Ends.”

This would be the final lineup, three new members who joined in 2018, and one of the remaining original members, Mare A Komachi (まれ・A・小町).

In 2019, things probably started on a somber note as original member Futamaruya Shidare (◎屋しだれ), Graduated February 2nd. April saw the release of the single “Odd eye” release on the 17th, and in July, the single “ssixth” on the 3rd.

For November of 2019, The Re-recording of the album “BrightDark.” 2020 looks to have started well for the group. On January 8th was the re-recording of the album “DarkBright” Then in March. They released the single “Still Roaring / REDERA,” and the album “Paradox soar” was released in August, on the 26th.

Their official English name was “Not secured, Loose ends” while looking for information about I found out they are an exhaustion-passion idol group. That sounds relatively straightforward until I look up the definition of that sub-genre title, and I find a picture of our four girls here!

So I guess it’s to do with, Once your passion is gone, you’ve exhausted your usefulness on stage? To paraphrase a Korean explanation on this topic of inquiry into idols. I don’t know that it directly applies, but it’s the best I could find.

I did find an American Idol story listed under my query. Still, it had to do with a particular contestant’s exhaustion. For those who don’t know, American Idol is a popular TV show, and not anything similar to the cultural phenomenon that is Japanese or Korean idol!

Sometimes it can be difficult to find all of the words you want to say about a particular band, how to explain exactly why you like them and which sounds really grab your interest.
Other times, there’s not very much information. Like this band for instance, my normal “go to” sources had no information about them.
Hopefully that will change for the better in 2022! I think the band has a great sound and I know many of you will as well.

AILICE Is a 5 member, all girl band :

The band released their first single “Marionette” on July 22nd of 2020. With not much information available beyond a dozen or so videos, when I listen to AIlice, I
hear mostly mainstream Pop/rock much like some of the more popular Stereopony and Ganglion videos.
AILICE seem to have a very wholesome image presentation in their videos and that’s as it should be. Not every band is a bunch of bad boys trying to prove how wild and crazy they are!
These are a bunch of nice young ladies doing their very best Musicianship!
It reminds me of my early teens when watching American Bandstand, The Brady Bunch. Or Happy Days everything was nice, clean, and wholesome! It was the highlight of my week watching shows like that. What really brought this comparison to light for me was the set of their music video “Dear…” Which looks like it was done in the Brady’s living room almost! Their music very pleasant and at times quite charming, please give it a listen !

Haruka Kudō 工藤 晴香(voice actress),was born March 16, 1989. This could have made her the eldest of the 6th generation of Morning Musume, I say this only to give you a time frame, In relation to another celebrity with a very similar name. This young lady had a very successful career. In the same area, yet completely separate from Morning Musume or Hello Project.
The video below was my first introduction to her. On the day this album was released, that being said. I didn’t know until I included the videos on this blog that she had anything to do with Bang Dream, or Roselia! I’m sure to the fans of those groups, this blog must read a little strange !
This is an amazing display of commonality! The circular staircase enclosed in concrete in this video, was actually the location for a Morning Musume. Video. Maybe in 2006 or earlier. So they very much are. In the same location with each other!

The fact that Morning Musume has an Alumni member with (almost)the same name was causing much confusion for me, just a year or so ago when this young lady came out with her new album! One of my acquaintances on Facebook, a devoted Hello Project fan for over a decade, even proposed that this was an impostor trying to gain success by using her famous name.

Now in hindsight, my Facebook friend being unaware of Haruka Kudō’s career is some consolation. It shows that my short lived immersion in the J-Pop genre was not the cause of my being unaware, there is some small comfort in that.

The new album release that I saw, the video above featured 工藤晴香, kudō haruka ! She is a Japanese voice actress and singer. She is best known as the voice of Hagumi Hanamoto in Honey and Clover, Haruka Kaminogi in Noein: To Your Other Self, and Sayu Yagami in the anime adaptation of Death Note. Kudō also portrays Sayo Hikawa in the BanG Dream! franchise, which includes playing guitar for the band Roselia. 工藤晴香, kudō haruka is a really great guitar player. This is where my confusion came up, I was seeing videos from a new album that was just released, yet there was no mention of it from any of the Morning Musume Facebook groups I was in?

Haruka Kudō worked for Top Coat and was an exclusive model for Seventeen Japan from 2003 to 2006. Kudō appeared in 2007 No.15. She was originally a reader model for magazines such as CUTiE. The manager of the Top Coat era scouted her after seeing her photo in a magazine.

She debuted as a voice actress in 2005 as Hagumi Hanamoto in the TV anime Honey and Clover. She was a reader of the original manga for the same work, and was surprised when offered an audition.

After graduating from university, she moved away from performing arts activities and her contract with Top Coat expired on the end of September 2007. Thereafter she started working as a voice actress in earnest and belonged to Sigma Seven in 2011.
